WHO WE ARE

SO WHY DID WE CREATE THE PHYSICIAN ALLIANCE, MICHIGAN’S LEADING PHYSICIAN ORGANIZATION? IT’S SIMPLE. WE BELIEVE THAT PHYSICIANS NEED TO TAKE THE LEAD AND BRING NEW AND INNOVATIVE HEALTH CARE SOLUTIONS TO OUR STATE.

Patients, providers, and purchasers of health care services need to know that we can tackle rising health care costs without sacrificing the quality they’ve come to expect. That’s why almost 2,400 caring and conscientious physicians have come together to create a new health care paradigm that remains patient centered while reducing costs.

MISSION

As an organization of physicians, our mission is to improve the health of patient populations by assisting our physicians in achieving clinical excellence. We do this by building robust partnerships and facilitating best practices. Our aim is to provide our physician members with exemplary service and innovative solutions to be financially successful in an ever-changing healthcare market.

HISTORY

The Physician Alliance began with a series of discussions that started in April 2009 and continued through 2010 between representatives of the five partner physician organizations. The discussions focused around the hypothesis that creating a partnership between these physician groups would result in strengthening the position and negotiating power of the physicians from these groups. After almost two years of discussion, The Physician Alliance LLC was formed on February 8, 2011. What has occurred since is a series of calculated steps to better position the almost 2,400 physicians that are members of The Physician Alliance. These steps include:

• • Formation of The Physician Alliance
  • Transitioning from a perception of physician organizations being subsidiaries of St. John Providence Health System to becoming 50/50 partners in the ownership of the St. John Providence Partners In Care
  • Facilitating the involvement of The Physician Alliance leadership in the negotiating process with third-party payors, with a The Physician Alliance physician acting as chairman of the finance and contracting committee
