Psychiatric Consult Collaborative Care (CoCM)

In response to the growing problem of access and quality in behavioral health care, BCBSM developed an incentive program to explore potential solutions to integrating behavioral health into general care. The Psychiatric Consult Collaborative Care (CoCM) model’s aim is to improve quality, outcomes and access to care while also reducing cost and stigma.

In the Psychiatric Consult Collaborative Care model, the behavioral health care manager meets with the psychiatric consultant weekly and brings back the psychiatrist’s recommendations to the patient’s primary care physician who then decides whether to change the patient’s treatment for anxiety and/or depression. Current initiative and training efforts focus on Michigan providers and Patient-Centered Medical Home-designated practices, especially those that participate in Provider-Delivered Care Management (PDCM).
